Jaurice Markel Haywood, 25, a Black male from Macon, Georgia, was killed in the early hours of May 17, 2025, when what should have been a celebratory graduation party on Williamson Road turned into a scene of gunfire and panic. Deputies were called to 1524 Williamson Road at about 2:30 a.m., where they found multiple people shot. Haywood was pronounced dead at the scene by Deputy Coroner Ronnie Miley, while two other men, identified in later reports as Jatorian Burton and Tyress Rivers, were
wounded. In the first hours after the shooting, the case was treated as an active homicide investigation, with authorities trying to piece together what had happened in the darkness after the party erupted into violence.
For months, the killing seemed to hang over the case without a public arrest, until investigators announced a break in August 2025. According to later reports citing the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, investigators identified 30-year-old Atraraus Marrell Rouse as the suspect in Haywood’s killing and in the shootings of the two surviving victims. Rouse was arrested on August 18, 2025, in Jones County by the U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force and taken to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center. Authorities said he was charged with murder and aggravated assault and was being held without bond. Based on the public reporting available, that arrest is the key development that followed Haywood’s death, and I did not find reliable reports showing additional suspects, a trial, or a conviction in this case after Rouse was taken into custody.
