Death by Force

Gary Shanklin, 23, a Black/African American male, was found shot to death in the early hours of May 18, 2025, on the 500 block of Michigan Street in Hammond, Indiana. Responders were called around 4:26 a.m., where two men were discovered with multiple gunshot wounds; the Lake County coroner later identified one of them as Gary Shanklin, 23, of East Chicago. Authorities said both victims were male and died at the scene from gunfire.
