In the early morning hours of Thursday, October 7, 2021, a burst of violence in Hammond, Indiana, tragically cut short the life of 26-year-old Danniel Gamez of East Chicago. Officers were dispatched to the 700 block of Locust Street around 3:35 a.m. following reports of gunfire. Upon their arrival, they discovered a grim scene with two men deceased from gunshot wounds.

Gamez was found in a nearby yard, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. The other victim, identified as 27-year-old Diandre Easter of Calumet City, was discovered in the passenger seat of a car, having been shot in the head. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene by the Lake County Coroner's Office.

In the immediate aftermath of the double homicide, investigators with the Hammond Police Department stated their belief that the shooting was an isolated incident. They appealed to the public for any information that might lead to the apprehension of those responsible for the deaths of Danniel Gamez and Diandre Easter.

Despite the initial investigation and public appeals for assistance, there have been no subsequent announcements regarding any arrests or the identification of any suspects in connection with the murders. The case remains an open investigation, leaving the family and friends of Danniel Gamez to mourn his loss without the closure of justice.
