In the early morning hours of August 6, 2025, the life of 25-year-old Robert Lavon Dyden Jr. was tragically cut short in a violent intrusion into a Louisville, Kentucky home. Responding to a call at approximately 5:45 a.m. in the Buechel neighborhood, police discovered Dyden with gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene in the 4200 block of Norbrook Drive.
Hours after the fatal shooting, Louisville Metro Police arrested 27-year-old Adrian Offutt Jr.
in connection with the crime. According to the arrest citation, Offutt, the ex-boyfriend of the woman living in the residence, broke in through a window and opened fire into the bed where Dyden was sleeping. Dyden was struck by at least two bullets.
The ensuing investigation revealed a domestic violence situation. After shooting Dyden, Offutt allegedly strangled the woman, stating, 'you made me do this,' before fleeing through the same window and firing several more shots at the home. Offutt was subsequently charged with a litany of offenses, including murder, first-degree burglary, first-degree strangulation first-degree wanton endangerment, and fourth-degree assault. Robert Dyden was remembered by his family and friends as a member of St. Stephen Church.
