In the Algonquin neighborhood of Louisville, Kentucky, a burst of violence on a Saturday afternoon shattered the peace and ended the life of 25-year-old Tevin Michael Logan. On December 5, 2015, Logan was found lying on the porch of a house on West Gaulbert Avenue, suffering from a single gunshot wound to the torso. The shooting occurred at approximately 4:30 p.m., a time when the day was still bright, but a shadow was cast over the community.
Emergency services rushed Logan to University Hospital, but his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead at 5:22 p.m.
The investigation into the young man's death quickly moved forward. Witnesses at the scene described a home invasion, telling police that a group of individuals had forced their way into Logan's residence. The intruders reportedly assaulted people inside, hitting them and pulling their hair. In the midst of this chaotic and violent intrusion, a shot was fired, and Tevin Logan became a victim of homicide. The search for those responsible began immediately, with the Louisville Metro Police Department's Homicide Unit interviewing witnesses and piecing together the events of that tragic afternoon.
Within a week of the shooting, the investigation led to the apprehension of two suspects. Nineteen-year-old Trayvon Harrison was arrested on the following Thursday, and 25-year-old Shajuanita Jackson was taken into custody on Friday. Both faced serious charges, including murder, burglary, and tampering with physical evidence. Jackson was also charged with fourth-degree assault. While the arrests brought a measure of progress in the case, the weapon used in the shooting was not immediately recovered by the police.
