In a heartbreaking turn of events on a Friday afternoon, 6-year-old Dior Scott's life was cut short by an act of violence that also claimed the life of 29-year-old Tomekia Pullins. The tragedy unfolded on June 13, 2025, inside an apartment on Columbia Drive in an unincorporated part of Decatur, Georgia. Dior, who was born on December 19, 2018, and had just completed kindergarten, was known for her bright smile and infectious enthusiasm.
The day of the incident, DeKalb County Police responded to a call about a double shooting at the Forest of Columbia Apartments around 2:48 p.m.. Upon arrival, officers discovered Dior and Pullins in the living room with gunshot wounds. Despite the efforts of first responders, both were pronounced dead at the scene. Witnesses at the apartment, where several other adults and children were present, identified the shooter as William Almond.
Investigators quickly pieced together the events leading to the fatal shooting. Almond, the 47-year-old estranged husband of Tomekia Pullins and Dior's uncle, had come to the apartment and tried to force his way inside. When he wasn't allowed in, he broke a window and fired multiple shots into the home, striking both victims. The shooting was the culmination of a pattern of domestic violence, with previous incidents reported in the months leading up to the murders.
Following the shooting, Almond fled the scene but was apprehended the same day by the DeKalb County SWAT Team. He was taken into custody and remains jailed without bond. A DeKalb County Grand Jury later indicted Almond on a lengthy list of more than 30 charges. These charges include two counts of malice murder, five counts of felony murder, multiple counts of aggravated assault and cruelty to children, as well as home invasion and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The case is being handled by the DeKalb County District Attorney's Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault Unit, with a trial to be scheduled following his arraignment.
