In the afternoon sun of June 29, 2025, a disturbance in a west Wichita neighborhood escalated into a fatal act of violence, claiming the life of 26-year-old Nicholas T. Aldridge. The incident unfolded around 2:30 p.m. in the 2700 block of West 2nd Street North, where Aldridge was involved in a confrontation with a group of men. The altercation ended tragically when Aldridge was shot in the back.
Emergency services responded to the scene and transported him to a local hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced deceased.
The individuals involved in the dispute with Aldridge fled the scene before law enforcement arrived, prompting an investigation to identify and locate them. The day following the shooting, authorities made an arrest in connection with the homicide. Elijah Fanning, a 27-year-old parolee, was taken into custody and booked into the Sedgwick County Jail. He faces multiple charges, including second-degree murder, criminal discharge of a firearm, and criminal possession of a weapon by a felon.
Investigators continued to seek at least one other suspect believed to be involved in the incident. While Fanning's arrest marked a significant development in the case, the search for the remaining individuals connected to Aldridge's death remained ongoing. Fanning, who has a history of previous convictions for kidnapping, burglary, and theft, was scheduled for a preliminary hearing in late October 2025.
