On June 29, 2025, Michael Norris, 21, a white male from Hartford City, Indiana, was killed in a shooting that shattered the early-morning quiet of rural Blackford County. Deputies were called around 2:45 a.m. to a home along South County Road 500 East, south of Montpelier, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The coroner identified him and indicated an autopsy would be conducted at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie.
