In a tragic incident on June 20, 2025, 32-year-old Brandon Cody, a male from Atlanta, Georgia, lost his life to gun violence. Known to his loved ones as 'B-Shot,' his death was the result of what authorities have described as an ambush-style shooting that took place in East Point. Friends and family gathered to remember him, with funeral services held at Saint Philip AME Church on June 28, 2025, followed by his burial at Lincoln Cemetery in Atlanta.
The investigation into Cody's death
revealed a sinister plot. According to a witness, Cody was ambushed by two men and a woman. Responding officers discovered numerous shell casings in a parking lot, and about a mile away, they found Cody's red Chevrolet Malibu down an embankment in a wooded area. He was in the driver's seat, having sustained a fatal gunshot wound. The car had several bullet holes, and both front doors were left open. Inside the vehicle, two of Cody's cellphones were found under his feet.
Authorities have identified three individuals believed to be connected to the deadly ambush. One of the suspects, 19-year-old Javion Clemmons, was apprehended at the scene. He allegedly confessed to his involvement in a robbery scheme with the other suspects, stating that they had lured Cody under the guise of purchasing $500 worth of pills. However, a family member of Clemmons has disputed that he confessed. The other two suspects were identified as 34-year-old Kyeisha Chatman and 42-year-old Marcus Overstreet. Chatman was later arrested on July 30 and is facing charges of murder and armed robbery.
Marcus Overstreet was already a person of interest in another violent crime. At the time he was named as a suspect in Cody's murder, Overstreet had been arrested on July 22 in connection with a separate homicide that occurred in December 2024. In that case, he is accused of the murder of 36-year-old Mario Culver, who was found shot to death in a burning vehicle in Atlanta. Overstreet is currently being held without bond at the DeKalb County Jail for Culver's murder, while also being a suspect in the killing of Brandon Cody.
