An employee of the City of East Point's Public Works Department since 2020, his death sent shockwaves through the community. The fatal event occurred inside the apartment where Barnes was with his girlfriend,
44-year-old Latasha Davine Bittle. In a sudden act of violence, Bittle shot Barnes. Following the shooting, Bittle herself contacted the police and confessed to having shot her boyfriend.
