Jimvonta Blossom, 24, a Black male, was shot late on Saturday, August 2, 2025, in Chicago’s West Town/Noble Square area after a street gathering spilled into the parking lot of Holy Trinity Polish Catholic Church at 1118 North Noble Street. Officers responding around 11:40 p.m. found Blossom inside a car with a gunshot wound to the head and a 50-year-old man nearby with a gunshot wound to the leg. Blossom was rushed to Northwestern Memorial Hospital and was pronounced dead about 3 p.m.
on Monday, August 4, 2025; the medical examiner ruled his death a homicide. The second victim was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition.
Detectives later pieced together a sequence from surveillance footage: after the initial fight between Blossom and the 50-year-old man, during which Blossom’s own. 40-caliber handgun discharged and struck the older man in the thigh, Blossom walked to the church lot and began to drive away. Another vehicle pulled in to block him; a man approached the driver’s side window and fired a single round into the car before fleeing. Prosecutors said the shooter was 23-year-old Antwan McLaurin, who lived steps from the scene.
On September 10, 2025, Chicago police announced McLaurin had been charged with first-degree murder in Blossom’s killing. When officers executed a search warrant at his home, they recovered a 9mm privately made “ghost” gun and clothing consistent with what the shooter wore that night; ballistics testing allegedly tied a casing from the scene to that weapon. A judge ordered McLaurin detained pending trial.
