On April 15, 2023, 17-year-old Curtis Moore was fatally shot in a drive-by shooting in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on Chicago's South Side. The incident occurred around 11:18 p.m. when Curtis was standing on the sidewalk in the 800 block of West 51st Street. A black sedan pulled up, and someone inside fired shots at him.

Curtis was hit by a gunshot wound to the chest and was immediately transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
