In the warm evening hours of July 3, 2025, a burst of violence shattered the holiday calm in Columbus, Georgia, claiming the life of 21-year-old Andre Thomas, a Black male also known as Z' Andre Hasson Thomas and Zandre Battle-Thomas. The fatal shooting occurred around 7:20 p.m. in the vicinity of Forrest and Avalon roads, marking another tragic event in a particularly violent holiday weekend for the city.
The incident that led to Thomas's death was chaotic, culminating in not only a loss of life but also a multi-vehicle collision as those responsible for the shooting fled the scene. When Columbus police officers arrived, they discovered Thomas suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the efforts of first responders, he was pronounced deceased.
The death of Andre Thomas was one of several homicides that plagued Columbus over the Fourth of July weekend, a period that saw a total of four fatalities and one injury across eight different crime scenes.
