In the early hours of a Saturday morning, on August 8, 2020, the life of 35-year-old Delron Fields, a Black male from Providence, Rhode Island, was tragically cut short. Fields was sitting alone in his car in the parking lot of a Dunkin' Donuts located at 315 Broad Street when a lone assailant approached and unleashed a barrage of gunfire. The brazen attack left Fields with multiple gunshot wounds, and he was pronounced dead at the scene by responding officers.
Investigators quickly
determined that the shooting was not a random act of violence, believing that Fields had been specifically targeted. Providence Police Major David Lapatin stated that it appeared a single shooter ran up to the vehicle and fired several shots. In the immediate aftermath, police began canvassing the area for evidence, including reviewing surveillance footage from nearby businesses, though a weapon was not immediately recovered.
