Dereck Peppers, aged 40, was shot and killed on April 11, 2011, in San Diego's Mountain View neighborhood. Peppers was standing outside a liquor store on Ocean View Boulevard when he was gunned down. The investigation revealed that Peppers was a member of the 5/9 Brim gang, which is affiliated with the Bloods, and his murder was part of ongoing gang violence between the Brims and their rivals, the Crips.
