In the early morning hours of September 26, 2025, a tragic event unfolded inside an apartment on the far east side of Indianapolis, culminating in the death of 19-year-old Lanya Amika Anderson. The young woman, a female, was fatally shot following what authorities have described as a domestic dispute.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were dispatched to an apartment in the 10100 block of John Jay Drive around 3:15 a.m. after reports of a person shot.
Upon their arrival, they discovered Anderson inside an apartment, suffering from a gunshot wound. She was immediately transported to a local hospital in critical condition but succumbed to her injuries shortly after her arrival.
In the hours that followed the shooting, a male who was present at the scene was detained by police for questioning. This individual was later identified as Tyairz Glover, who was believed to be in a relationship with Anderson. Following an initial investigation, Glover was arrested and has since been formally charged with murder in connection with Anderson's death.
Further investigation into the incident revealed a harrowing sequence of events leading up to the fatal shot. It is believed that during an argument with Glover, Anderson placed a FaceTime call to her mother. During this call, the argument reportedly escalated, with Glover allegedly striking Anderson. The call abruptly ended after the phone was dropped, and a gunshot was heard. Subsequently, Glover allegedly contacted Anderson's mother, claiming that Lanya had shot herself.
Contradictory statements emerged during the investigation. Glover's brother reportedly informed detectives that Anderson had reached for a gun during the argument, at which point Glover threatened to shoot her. After the shooting, Glover allegedly told his brother that Anderson had taken her own life during a struggle. In his interview with investigators, Glover initially claimed that Anderson had shot herself while holding their child after he threatened to end their relationship. However, he later admitted to punching and pistol-whipping her during the argument. An autopsy revealed that Anderson had sustained several injuries to her head in addition to the fatal gunshot wound. Authorities also learned that Glover's brother had sent a text message to his mother stating that Glover had shot Anderson. Glover reportedly fled the apartment with two firearms, providing conflicting accounts of their disposal to investigators. He is also facing a charge of unlawful carrying of a handgun by a convicted felon. A jury trial for Glover was scheduled to begin in December 2025.
