In the late summer of 2025, the community of Milledgeville, Georgia, was shaken by the tragic death of Lashonda Shontell Lawrence, a 38-year-old woman, in what authorities have described as a murder-suicide. The incident unfolded on September 11th, leaving behind a grieving family and a community searching for answers.
On that Thursday afternoon, officers from the Milledgeville Police Department were dispatched to a residence on Pritchard Street, off North Jefferson Street, around 3:30
p.m. Inside the home, they discovered the bodies of Ms. Lawrence and 36-year-old Tavious Antwon Spencer. The initial investigation suggested that Spencer had shot and killed Lawrence before taking his own life.
The Baldwin County Chief Deputy Coroner pronounced both individuals deceased at the scene. It was believed that the tragic events had transpired several hours earlier, sometime between 7 a.m. and noon. Both Lawrence and Spencer had sustained gunshot wounds to the head. Their bodies were subsequently transported to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Laboratory for autopsies to be performed.
While the investigation was officially ongoing, the Milledgeville Police Department stated that they were not seeking any other suspects and that there was no further threat to the public. The preliminary findings of their investigation led them to believe that Spencer was the sole perpetrator in the death of Ms. Lawrence. The community was left to mourn the loss of a mother and friend, a life cut short in a senseless act of violence.
