When he arrived, the suspect confronted him, told him to leave, and then, after a second confrontation, opened fire multiple times. Neighbors reported hearing several shots; according to a subsequent account, the maintenance man at the complex allegedly shot Wooldridge in the head, chest, and hand before deputies recovered a firearm inside an apartment.
Deputies identified the suspect as 68-year-old Juan Antonio Huertas Figueroa, the apartment complex's maintenance man. He was arrested at the scene and charged with first-degree murder. Officials said he was transported to the Volusia County Branch Jail and is being held without bond as the investigation continues.
