Korey Woulard, a 29-year-old resident of DeLand, Florida, tragically lost his life on December 11, 2022. The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning, around 1:54 a.m., when Woulard was found shot and lying in the middle of Chipola Avenue. Despite the efforts of a DeLand police officer who administered CPR, Woulard was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Volusia County Sheriff's Office launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death, which led to significant developments over the following months.
The investigation revealed that Woulard had been in a tumultuous relationship with Jasmoray Baugh, the mother of his child. On the night of the incident, surveillance footage and phone records placed Woulard and Baugh together. Witnesses reported seeing Woulard running away from Baugh's white Kia Forte shortly before the shooting. Additional video evidence showed Woulard leaving Baugh's residence and walking towards the southwest entrance of the Taylor Place Apartments. Moments later, Baugh's vehicle was seen driving in the vicinity, and a text message from Baugh to Woulard at 1:30 a.m. ominously read, "you going under the ground."
As the investigation progressed, detectives uncovered that Baugh had followed Woulard after an argument, during which Woulard had broken the side mirror of Baugh's car. Shortly after this altercation, Baugh allegedly shot Woulard in the chest, leading to his death. Baugh was subsequently charged with second-degree murder and was arrested by the Volusia County Sheriff's Office. She was held without bail at the Volusia County Branch Jail.
The case against Baugh was bolstered by multiple pieces of evidence, including surveillance footage, witness statements, and cell phone records. Investigators also discovered that Baugh had deleted several text message threads with Woulard and family members on the morning of his death. Additionally, Baugh had previously reported incidents of domestic violence involving Woulard to the DeLand Police Department, further complicating the narrative of their relationship.
In the aftermath of Woulard's death, the legal proceedings against Baugh continued, with the Volusia County Sheriff's Office working to ensure justice for Woulard and his family.
