In the early morning hours of September 19, 2025, a quiet street in Albany, Georgia, became the scene of a tragedy. Responding to reports of a shooting on the 1400 block of Lee Street at approximately 3 a.m., officers from the Albany Police Department discovered 50-year-old Leigh Bowen Dyson inside a vehicle. She had sustained a fatal gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident, which shattered the neighborhood's calm, unfolded just a short distance from Monroe Comprehensive High School.
Investigators quickly identified the incident as a domestic-related homicide. The suspect was named as 59-year-old Allen Dyson. In addition to Leigh Dyson's death, another individual, 29-year-old Phares Taylor Jr., was also shot during the dispute. Following the shooting, Allen Dyson fled the location, prompting a search by law enforcement.
The investigation extended into neighboring Lee County, where authorities, including the Lee County Sheriff's Office SWAT team, were involved in executing search and arrest warrants at a residence on Hearthstone Drive. However, the search for the suspect came to a grim conclusion. Allen Dyson was later found deceased at his home, having died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Multiple firearms were recovered from the scene. With the death of the sole suspect, the Albany Police Department announced that the case was considered cleared.
