Wontania Jermaine Hall Jr., a 26-year-old male, tragically lost his life in a hail of gunfire on the evening of October 12, 2020, in Albany, Georgia. The shooting occurred at a residence on Wingate Avenue, where Hall and another individual, 14-year-old D'Varri Canady, were inside. Both victims were struck by multiple bullets and were pronounced dead at the scene by the Dougherty County Coroner.
The initial investigation by the Albany Police Department suggested that the gunshots originated from outside the house. Officers at the scene discovered numerous bullet holes in the front door and living room window of the residence, with shell casings found both outside near the window and inside in the kitchen. The nature of the incident led authorities to believe it was a drive-by shooting.
In the immediate aftermath, law enforcement began the arduous process of canvassing the area for witnesses and evidence. While a motive was not immediately established, investigators stated that the possibility of the shooting being gang-related would be thoroughly explored. At the time, Albany had been experiencing a rise in gang-related activities and violence.
