On the evening of December 23, 2020, a festive season was shattered by an act of sudden violence in Albany, Georgia, that claimed the life of 21-year-old Taneka Walker, a Black female. The young woman, a professional hair stylist, was in the passenger seat of a vehicle at the drive-thru of a Wendy's restaurant on East Oglethorpe Boulevard when the unthinkable happened. Just before 11 p.m., another car pulled alongside them, and an occupant opened fire, striking both Walker and the driver, 25-year-old Issac James, Jr.
Both victims were rushed to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, but tragically, Taneka Walker succumbed to her multiple gunshot wounds on December 24, 2020. James was also seriously injured in the attack but was initially reported to be in critical condition.
