In the early morning hours of June 22, 2025, the sound of gunfire shattered the quiet of the Kingman Park neighborhood in Northeast Washington, D.C. Responding to the disturbance at approximately 12:03 a.m., Metropolitan Police Department officers on patrol discovered a grim scene in the 1800 block of D Street, Northeast. Two men were found lying unconscious and unresponsive, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
One of the victims was identified as 30-year-old Quonzay Lynch, a Black
male from Northeast, D.C. The second victim was 41-year-old Cortney Burley of Southeast, D.C. Emergency responders from DC Fire and EMS arrived swiftly and attempted life-saving measures, but their efforts were in vain. Both Lynch and Burley were pronounced dead at the scene, turning the residential street into the site of a double homicide investigation. The shooting unfolded just steps from homes, leaving the community shaken.
In the wake of the deadly shooting, detectives began their investigation, canvassing the area for evidence and marking shell casings along D Street. However, authorities have not yet released information about a potential motive for the killings. As of the latest reports, no arrests have been made in connection with the deaths of Quonzay Lynch and Cortney Burley, and police have not provided a description of any suspects.
