In the late evening hours of Sunday, August 3, 2025, a tragic event unfolded near Union Station in Washington, D.C. that claimed the life of Akim Toure, a 27-year-old male. Originally from Sierra Leone, Toure had immigrated to the United States as a child and had built a life as a dedicated IT professional residing in Riverdale, Maryland. His family described him as a hardworking man who was deeply committed to caring for his mother and sister, especially after the passing of his father.
The incident occurred around 11:04 p.m. in the 400 block of New Jersey Avenue NW, near the entrance to the YOTEL hotel parking garage. According to police reports and family accounts, the conflict began at a rooftop pool party and escalated. It is believed that Toure stepped in to protect a woman who was being assaulted. In this act of courage, he was shot multiple times. First District officers responded to reports of the shooting and found Toure unconscious and not breathing. He was transported to a local hospital, but despite all lifesaving efforts, he was pronounced dead.
In the wake of the shooting, the Metropolitan Police Department launched an active investigation. Authorities began searching for a suspect described as a Black male with dreadlocks, who was wearing a white shirt and shorts at the time of the incident. He was reportedly seen fleeing the scene in a black sedan, possibly a Honda. Investigators released surveillance images of a man wanted for questioning in connection with the fatal shooting and are offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible. As of the days following the incident, no arrests had been made, and the family of Akim Toure continues to seek justice for their loss.
