In what was determined to be a murder-suicide, 34-year-old Britney Nashaye Summerhill was found deceased on Saturday, May 17, 2025, in a room at the InTown Suites on Oxmoor Road in Birmingham, Alabama. Her death has been classified as the city's 29th homicide of the year. Authorities with the Jefferson County Coroner's Office officially identified Summerhill and the man found with her, 30-year-old Jaron Trevell Bishop.
Birmingham Police were called to the extended-stay motel around 12:08
p.m. after receiving a report of two unresponsive individuals in a second-floor room. Upon their arrival, both Summerhill and Bishop were found with gunshot wounds. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service personnel pronounced both individuals dead at the scene at 12:41 p.m. Investigators believe that the fatal shootings occurred the previous evening at approximately 7:59 p.m.
According to the investigation, evidence suggests that Bishop shot and killed Summerhill before turning the gun on himself. A firearm was recovered from the scene. Detectives canvassed the property and found no indication that anyone else had been in the room at the time of the incident. Other guests at the motel described the couple, who had been staying there for at least a week, as quiet and private. No one at the motel reported hearing any gunshots overnight. The Birmingham Police Department's Homicide Unit investigated the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
