In the early morning hours of a June day in Huntsville, Alabama, a planned meeting between two individuals turned deadly, leaving a young man, Nicholas Kyle Howell, with fatal injuries. The 22-year-old male was discovered lying in the roadway in the 3900 block of Rucker Circle with a gunshot wound. First responders arrived at the scene around 1 a.m. after receiving a call about shots being fired.
Howell was rushed to the hospital in life-threatening condition but ultimately succumbed to his injuries later that day. Before he died, Howell was able to tell officers that he had been in the area with a friend when the shooting occurred.
The investigation into the shooting led Huntsville Police to a nearby apartment complex. There, they identified 25-year-old Amber Marie Baker as a person of interest. According to police, Howell had arranged to meet with Baker to purchase items from her. During this prearranged exchange, Baker allegedly produced a gun and shot Howell. Evidence gathered at the apartment complex played a crucial role in the investigation.
Following the investigation, Amber Marie Baker was arrested and taken into custody. Initially, she was charged with first-degree assault. However, after Nicholas Kyle Howell's death, the charges against her were upgraded to murder. Baker was subsequently booked into the Madison County Jail. The case is expected to proceed through the legal system, where prosecutors will present the evidence against her.
