In the summer of 2025, a domestic dispute in a north Phoenix home escalated to a fatal conclusion, ending the life of 60-year-old Karl Derek Thau. On the evening of July 28th, police were called to a residence near 14th Street and Topeka Drive around 7:41 p.m. following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Thau unresponsive, having sustained an apparent gunshot wound.
