In the summer of 2025, a domestic dispute in a north Phoenix home escalated to a fatal conclusion, ending the life of 60-year-old Karl Derek Thau. On the evening of July 28th, police were called to a residence near 14th Street and Topeka Drive around 7:41 p.m. following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Thau unresponsive, having sustained an apparent gunshot wound.
Phoenix Fire Department paramedics arrived at the scene and pronounced Thau deceased.
During their initial investigation, officers identified and detained a suspect at the home, 85-year-old Robert Angelo Feola. Feola was subsequently identified as Thau's father-in-law. Homicide detectives were called to the scene to take over the investigation.
Following an interview with detectives at Phoenix Police Headquarters, Robert Angelo Feola was arrested and booked into the Maricopa County Jail on a charge of murder. Authorities have described the incident as stemming from a domestic dispute, though the specific details of what led to the shooting remain part of the ongoing investigation.
