In the late morning of a Tuesday in Huntsville, Alabama, a dispute escalated into a fatal encounter for Caleb Troy Martin, a 25-year-old male from the nearby city of Decatur. The events unfolded on September 16, 2025, on Binford Drive, where an altercation between Martin and another individual took a deadly turn.
According to investigations by the Huntsville Police Department's Major Crimes Unit, a third man, identified as 23-year-old Tyshaun Dominique Darnell Hampton of Huntsville,
intervened in the initial dispute. When Martin then began to fight with Hampton, Hampton reportedly drew a firearm and shot him. The single bullet that struck and killed Martin also injured the second man involved in the original altercation. Emergency services were called to the scene around 10 a.m., but Martin was pronounced dead from his injuries. The second victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Following the shooting, the Huntsville Police Department swiftly identified Hampton as the suspect and issued warrants for his arrest on charges of murder and first-degree assault the very next day. A search for Hampton was immediately launched. He was considered a fugitive, and the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force was enlisted to aid in his capture.
The search for Hampton concluded nearly two months later when he was located and apprehended in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. On November 4, 2025, it was announced that Hampton had been taken into custody without incident. He was held in Wisconsin, awaiting extradition back to Huntsville to face the charges brought against him in connection with the death of Caleb Troy Martin and the injury of the second victim.
