In the late summer of 2025, the life of a young Mobile man, Kamron Killings, a 24-year-old Black male, was tragically cut short. On Sunday, September 21, 2025, inside a residence on the 1300 block of East Linwood Drive, Killings was shot and killed by an individual known to him. The quiet street would soon become the focal point of a homicide investigation that would quickly unravel.
The following morning, on Monday, September 22, 2025, at around 10:00 a.m., police officers responded to
a call and discovered Kamron Killings deceased inside the home. Investigators determined that after the shooting, the assailant had fled the scene in the victim's vehicle. In the pre-dawn hours of that same Monday, at approximately 12:31 a.m., patrol officers had spotted a vehicle driving without headlights on McVay Drive. When they attempted to pull the car over, the driver refused to stop, initiating a pursuit that ended in the 200 block of Government Street.
The driver, identified as 18-year-old Jaylin Roberts-Westry, was taken into custody and transported to the Mobile County Metro Jail. It was later determined that the vehicle he was driving belonged to Kamron Killings. The investigation connected Roberts-Westry to the homicide on East Linwood Drive, leading to his status as the primary suspect in Killings' death.
During a preliminary hearing, a detective testified that the gun found in Roberts-Westry's possession at the time of his arrest was registered to Killings. Furthermore, the shell casings recovered from the murder scene were a match to that firearm. A judge found sufficient evidence for the case to be presented to a grand jury on a murder charge. In addition to the new charges, the judge also revoked Roberts-Westry's probation from a prior, unrelated case. Kamron Killings, known affectionately as 'Kam' and as a musician named 'Know13dge,' was a 2019 graduate of Baker High School with certifications as an electrician. His obituary noted he was eagerly anticipating the birth of his daughter.
