On February 24, 2020, in Mobile, Alabama, 51-year-old Eldred Martin Hall was fatally shot near a Mardi Gras parade route. The incident occurred at the intersection of North Warren Street and Saint Anthony Street, where Hall was in a vehicle with his girlfriend, Valerie Reed, and another individual. Anthony Orr, Reed's ex-husband, approached the vehicle and opened fire, resulting in Hall's death and Reed sustaining critical injuries that left her permanently paralyzed.
