Robert Downs Jr., a 42-year-old white male from South Bend, Indiana, was tragically killed on March 22, 2002, in a mass shooting at Bertrand Products Inc., a manufacturing facility located near the South Bend Regional Airport. Downs Jr. was one of four employees fatally shot during the incident, which occurred shortly after 8:15 a.m. while a production meeting was underway. He was pronounced dead at Memorial Hospital following the attack.
