Brent Baldes, a 39-year-old Hawaiian male, died in the early hours of August 16, 2009, after a drunken dispute in a northwest Las Vegas neighborhood turned violent. Shortly after 1:30 a.m., police were called to the 8700 block of Harvest Valley Avenue, near Durango Drive and Cheyenne Avenue, where they found him unresponsive. He was taken to MountainView Hospital and died from his injuries.
The Clark County coroner initially withheld the exact cause and manner of death, pending further determination.
Witnesses told detectives that Baldes and another man had been drinking together before the fight broke out. From the outset, investigators described a “possible suspect” who spoke with homicide detectives and cooperated with authorities. Police said the case would be reviewed by the Clark County district attorney's office once the investigation was complete, and early reports did not announce any arrest in connection with Baldes's death.
