A 17-year-old Hispanic girl's life was tragically cut short in Las Vegas following a shooting at a house party. Jannet Sanchez, a senior at Eldorado High School, was caught in the crossfire of a dispute that escalated to violence on a Friday night. She sustained a gunshot wound to the head and, after fighting for her life for two days in critical condition, succumbed to her injuries on a Sunday at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center.
The incident unfolded at a residence in the east
valley, located on Beacon Falls Way, near the intersection of Vegas Valley Drive and Nellis Boulevard. According to law enforcement, an argument broke out between two groups at the party. One group departed in a vehicle, and at that point, an individual from the party at the house aimed an air rifle at the car. It is believed that a person in the vehicle, possibly mistaking the air rifle for a more powerful weapon, retaliated by firing a real gun toward the residence. It was during this exchange that Sanchez was struck.
Authorities indicated that the shooting appeared to be gang-related and that Jannet Sanchez may have been an unintended victim of the altercation. In the aftermath of the shooting, police reported that they had identified the individual responsible for firing the fatal shot. The investigation's findings were being submitted to the district attorney for review. The tragic event was highlighted by police as a senseless outcome stemming from a lack of common sense from both parties involved in the initial dispute.
