On August 31, 2017, a tragic incident occurred in Las Vegas, Nevada, resulting in the death of 61-year-old Robin Bauer Melendez. The incident took place at a residence located on the 6800 block of Fallona Avenue, near the intersection of North Hollywood and Lake Mead boulevards.
According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the call was received at approximately 9:10 a.m. reporting a woman who had been shot.
Upon arrival, police found Melendez suffering from a single gunshot wound. She was immediately transported to University Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead around 10 a.m..
The investigation revealed that the shooting was accidental and involved Melendez's 19-year-old grandson. The grandson was in one room of the house attempting to clear a handgun when the gun unexpectedly fired. The bullet traveled through two rooms and struck Melendez, who was sleeping in another room at the time.
The grandson, whose name has not been publicly disclosed, was cooperating fully with the police and was described as being very distraught over the incident. There were no reports of any other family members being harmed, as four other members of the family also resided in the house.
