Courtney Willis, a 32-year-old woman, was killed in a shooting on the night of August 27, 2026, in southwest Las Vegas, Nevada. The violence unfolded at an apartment in the 5100 block of West Reno Avenue, near Decatur Boulevard and Tropicana Avenue, in what Las Vegas Metropolitan Police later described as a domestic-related murder-suicide. Officers responding shortly before midnight found Courtney and a man suffering from apparent gunshot wounds inside the apartment. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators determined that the violence involved three people who had been together inside the apartment: the male suspect and two women. Police said the man was currently involved in a relationship with one of the women and had recently been involved in a relationship with the other, although available reports do not clearly establish which relationship involved Courtney. At some point, an argument erupted. Detectives said the man produced a firearm and opened fire on both women. One of them was shot while trying to escape from the apartment.

As officers were responding to the original report of gunfire, police received another call about a wounded woman inside a vehicle in a nearby business parking lot along Decatur Boulevard. Officers found her suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, provided assistance, and had her transported to a hospital. Detectives subsequently determined that the shooting of that woman and the deaths inside the West Reno Avenue apartment were part of the same incident. Courtney was the woman who died at the apartment.

The Clark County Coroner's Office later identified the male suspect as 62-year-old Jack Ostrander. According to police, after shooting the two women, Ostrander turned the firearm on himself and died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. His death meant there was no arrest, criminal prosecution, trial, or conviction in connection with Courtney's killing. Police treated the incident as an isolated murder-suicide and said there was no continuing threat to the public.

Courtney was known to family and friends as "CoCo." In the days after her death, her family described her as a loving mother whose son, Robin, was an especially important part of her life. They remembered an infectious smile and distinctive laugh and said she enjoyed traveling, tattooing, trying different foods, spending time with people she loved, and sharing her personality through social media. Her sudden death left relatives and friends preparing for a funeral while mourning a life they said had brought happiness and laughter to those around her.
