A young woman’s life was tragically cut short in a fatal shooting that occurred on a late Friday night in Nashville. Kayla Phillips-Coker, a 26-year-old resident of Nashville, was killed in the incident which took place in the 100 block of Cumberland Avenue.
On the evening of her death, Phillips-Coker had been visiting with acquaintances at a residence on Cumberland Avenue. She reportedly left the house to walk to a nearby convenience store.
It was during her walk back to the residence that she was apparently shot. According to witness accounts, after being shot, she ran back into the house before collapsing.
Emergency services were called, and Phillips-Coker was transported to Skyline Medical Center for treatment. She had sustained a single gunshot wound to her abdomen. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, she ultimately succumbed to her injury and died at the hospital.
Madison Precinct detectives are actively investigating the fatal shooting. At this time, no arrests have been made in connection with her murder. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the shooting of Kayla Phillips-Coker to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers.
