On the morning of January 15, 1974, Josephine Otero, an 11-year-old Hispanic female, was at home with her family—her father Joseph mother Julie and brother Joseph Jr. —at 803 North Edgemoor Street in Wichita, Kansas. A gun-wielding intruder cut the telephone line and forced the family into a bedroom, where he methodically bound them with rope. After strangling the parents and suffocating the younger brother, the attacker took Josephine, the 11-year-old Hispanic female, to the basement.
