Stacey Lynn Siegrist, a 19-year-old Caucasian female, was tragically murdered on May 5, 1990, in Rubidoux, California. She and her boyfriend, Anthony Gianuzzi, 21, were discovered along a dirt power line access road near the intersection of Canal and Alta streets. The couple had been missing for nearly two days before a jogger stumbled upon their bodies. Both victims had been shot twice—once in the side of the head and once in the back of the neck.
Additionally, Stacey Siegrist had been sexually assaulted.
For years, the case remained unsolved until DNA evidence linked Alfredo Rolando Prieto, a convicted serial killer and rapist, to the crime. Prieto, who was already on California’s death row for the 1992 rape and murder of 15-year-old Yvette Woodruff, was later extradited to Virginia in 2005 after DNA connected him to three 1988 Virginia slayings. In 2010, Riverside County’s cold case unit submitted evidence from the crime scene to a private laboratory, which confirmed Prieto’s involvement in the Rubidoux double homicide.
Authorities believe Prieto may have had one or two accomplices in the murder of Stacey Siegrist and Anthony Gianuzzi, though no additional suspects have been publicly identified. The Riverside County Sheriff's Department delayed announcing the DNA match to avoid influencing jurors in Prieto’s Virginia trial. Prieto has been linked to nine murders and four sexual assaults, making him one of the most dangerous criminals in recent history. His California death sentence remains under appeal.
