On September 20, 1988, the body of Michele Gordon, age 22, was found on the rocky banks of the Chesapeake & Delaware Canal after she had last been seen days earlier entering a blue Ford panel van along U.S. Route 40 near the Newark area of Delaware. Her discovery echoed the mounting dread surrounding a string of attacks on women along that corridor; the autopsy indicated homicide and reports later noted cocaine in her system, a detail that would become central to ...
