On February 4, 1989, 79-year-old African American woman Johnnie Mae Martin was found deceased in her home located in the Vine City neighborhood of Atlanta, Georgia. She was discovered lying on her bed with a pillow over her head, her bloodstained nightgown pulled up around her breasts, and the rest of her body nude with her legs spread apart.
