In the spring of 2019, the life of a young African American woman, 20-year-old Ricaya Pace, was tragically cut short in southwest Atlanta. On the afternoon of April 23rd, a heated argument between two women on Sells Avenue escalated into deadly violence. Atlanta police officers were called to the scene around 1:15 p.m. and discovered Pace with multiple gunshot wounds. There were also indications that she may have been stabbed during the altercation.
Despite medical attention, she did not survive her injuries. The Fulton County Medical Examiner's office later confirmed her identity.
The immediate aftermath of the shooting was a scene of chaos and grief, as friends and family of Pace gathered, overwhelmed with shock and anger. Investigators began their work amidst the volatile atmosphere, detaining three individuals for questioning to piece together the events that led to the homicide. Following questioning by detectives, Ealey was taken into custody and charged with felony murder. She was subsequently booked into the Fulton County Jail.
