On April 12, 1982, 58-year-old White male Robert Schulze of Clifton, New Jersey, was fatally shot in Manhattan, New York, in a violent incident that became known as the CBS Murders. Schulze, along with two other CBS employees—54-year-old Leo Kuranuki of Great Neck, Long Island, and 55-year-old Edward Benford of Hawthorne, New York—was killed while attempting to intervene in the abduction of a woman on the rooftop of the Pier 92 parking garage along the Hudson River.
