In the early 1970s, a series of brutal attacks on young boys in Manhattan, New York, sent shockwaves through the community. One of the victims was Wendell Hubbard, a 9-year-old African American boy who was murdered on October 23, 1972, in East Harlem. The young boy was found stabbed 17 times on the rooftop of a tenement building. His body had been gruesomely mutilated, with his genitals removed—a horrifying pattern that linked his death to a string of similar crimes.
