On the night of January 13, 2025, a domestic dispute call led Chesterfield County Police to a residence on Matoaca Road, where they discovered a grim scene. Inside, 59-year-old Tamara L. Recchia, a female from Petersburg, was found deceased from an apparent gunshot wound. A second adult female was also discovered at the scene with significant injuries.
The injured woman was quickly transported to a local hospital for treatment where she was listed in stable condition.
At a neighboring home, police located 32-year-old Brandon L. Rhodes. Following an initial investigation, Rhodes was taken into custody. It was later revealed that the injured woman was Rhodes' mother, and both he and his mother resided at the Matoaca Road home where the incident occurred. Recchia had been staying at the residence for an unknown period and was known to both Rhodes and his mother.
Authorities arrested Brandon L. Rhodes and charged him with second-degree murder in connection with Tamara Recchia's death. He was subsequently held at the Chesterfield County Jail without bond. Police have indicated that additional charges are pending as their investigation into the shooting continues. The motive for the attack has not been released to the public.
