In the early morning hours of March 19, 2021, the life of 31-year-old Erica Yolanda Eldridge was tragically cut short in a parking lot in Petersburg, Virginia. A mother of three, Eldridge was found with a fatal gunshot wound in what authorities would later describe as a domestic-related homicide. The incident unfolded in the 500 block of South South Street, where neighbors reported hearing screams followed by a single gunshot.
At the scene, police encountered 45-year-old Kevin Craig, who
was waiting for them to arrive. It was revealed that Craig and Eldridge had been in a domestic relationship, a fact corroborated by neighbors who stated the two had a history of arguments. The tragic event marked the second domestic-related homicide in Petersburg that year.
Kevin Craig was taken into custody without incident and subsequently charged with first-degree murder and firearms violations in connection with Eldridge's death. He was held without bond. The community was left to mourn the loss of a young mother, a graduate of Petersburg High School with a passion for styling hair, who was remembered for her dedication to her three children.
