Shaakira Ross, a 19-year-old from Petersburg, Virginia, was tragically shot and killed on the night of May 4, 2015. Ross, a 2014 graduate of the Maggie Walker Governor’s School, was found alone in her car on Fort Rice Street around 10 p.m. by police. She was transported to Southside Regional Medical Center, where she succumbed to her injuries. Ross was remembered fondly by her friends and family for her vibrant personality and aspirations of becoming a nurse.
