In the late afternoon of January 26, 2025, the life of 26-year-old Shuntrel La-Marcus McNear, a Black male, was tragically cut short in Franklin, Virginia. Around 3:39 p.m., the sound of gunfire pierced the air at the intersection of Laurel Street and South Street. When Franklin Police officers arrived at the scene, they found McNear suffering from gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical personnel quickly transported him to Bon Secours Southampton Medical Center. Despite the efforts of medical staff, McNear succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. His death has been ruled a homicide, prompting an active investigation by the City of Franklin Police Department.
In the days following the fatal shooting, detectives began their search for those responsible. While no arrests have been made and no suspects have been publicly identified, the police have appealed to the public for assistance. Investigators have identified a vehicle of interest in connection with the shooting, described as a gold or beige Honda or Toyota sedan with dark tinted windows. Authorities are urging anyone with information about this vehicle or the incident to come forward to help bring closure to the case. The investigation remains ongoing as they seek to uncover the circumstances that led to McNear's untimely death.
