On March 22, 2025, 30-year-old Martin Diaz, a Hispanic male from Fort Worth, Texas, was tragically killed in what authorities believe was a murder-for-hire scheme. At approximately 3:30 a.m., Fort Worth police responded to a shooting in the 2600 block of Covert Avenue in the South Hills neighborhood. Upon arrival, officers discovered Martin Diaz deceased in an alleyway, having suffered fatal gunshot wounds to the head.
Investigations led to the arrest of 29-year-old Luis Gomez de la Cruz, who confessed to shooting Martin Diaz in exchange for a promised payment of $10,000 to $15,000. The alleged orchestrator of this plot, 45-year-old David Villanueva-Carbajal, is accused of hiring Gomez de la Cruz to carry out the murder. Both men have been charged with capital murder for remuneration and are currently held in the Tarrant County Jail, with bonds set at $500,000 for Gomez de la Cruz and $750,000 for Villanueva-Carbajal.
Martin Diaz was a dedicated family man, survived by his wife, Carmen, and their two children, aged 11 and 5. Described by loved ones as charismatic, hardworking, and kind-hearted, his untimely death has left a profound void in the community. A GoFundMe campaign has been established by his sister-in-law, Laura Gallo, to assist with funeral expenses and support for his family during this difficult time.
Funeral services for Martin Diaz were held at Amalla Funeral Home in Fort Worth, with visitation on March 31 and the funeral on April 1, 2025. The Fort Worth Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding this case.
