Curtis Lee Locklear, a 55-year-old man from Shannon, North Carolina, tragically lost his life on December 24, 2024. Locklear was born on May 1, 1969, and was a longtime resident of Shannon. His passing was marked by grief among his family and community, as he was survived by his children, siblings, and extended relatives.
Authorities responded to reports of a shooting on Nettie Drive in Shannon at approximately 5:39 p.m. on December 24.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered Locklear suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a nearby medical facility for treatment but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
Following the incident, law enforcement swiftly identified and arrested a suspect. Timothy Griffin, a 32-year-old man from Fayetteville, North Carolina, was taken into custody later that evening. Initially charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and discharging a firearm inside an enclosure to incite, Griffin's charges were later upgraded to second-degree murder after Locklear's death was confirmed.
Griffin remains in custody at the Robeson County Detention Center without bond as the investigation continues. The Robeson County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Division is leading the inquiry, with assistance from the Fayetteville Police Department. Authorities have urged anyone with additional information regarding the case to come forward.
