On January 4, 2025, 18-year-old Zyon Clinton, a young African American male, was fatally shot in Greensboro, North Carolina. The incident occurred late at night, around 10:29 p.m., when Clinton arrived at a local hospital in a private vehicle, suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries the following morning at 10:43 a.m.
Authorities quickly classified his death as a homicide and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
The Greensboro Police Department later announced the arrests of three teenagers in connection with Clinton’s murder. On February 26, two of the suspects were apprehended at Smith High School by school resource officers. Both individuals were charged as adults with first-degree murder and discharging a firearm into occupied property. Nearly a week later, on March 4, detectives located and arrested the third suspect, who was also charged as an adult with first-degree murder and discharging a firearm into occupied property. All three suspects are currently being held without bond.
Clinton’s family, devastated by the loss, spoke publicly about his character and the impact of his death. His mother, Tawanna Clinton, described him as a kind-hearted individual who often helped the homeless, even giving away his birthday money to those in need. His sister, Ashley Clinton, expressed sorrow over the fact that the suspects were teenagers, emphasizing the importance of parental guidance and urging young people to put down firearms.
Authorities have not disclosed further details regarding the motive or circumstances of the shooting.
